Art and Design
Our Aims and Objectives
To provide a rich, high-quality Art curriculum which equips all pupils with the experience, knowledge and skills they need to enable them to become life-long artists and to appreciate the world around them. We aim to equip pupils with a range of opportunities to engage, inspire and motivate them to create their own artwork and explorations through a variety of mediums and techniques. We encourage pupils to think critically about their own, and others' artwork, and to develop an appreciation of art and design.
Our Curriculum Planning
At Witton Church Walk Primary School, we deliver our Art and Design curriculum through our progression document. This document maps out the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary the children will be working towards achieving by the end of each key stage. Each National Curriculum objective is broken down into small, achievable steps in order to create a sequence of lessons, allowing for depth of learning to take place. Staff have collaborated on this document to ensure that learning is progressive and built upon prior learning as the children move through the key stages. This ensures our curriculum delivers clear progression of skills from Year 1 to Year 6.
Our curriculum is carefully planned and delivered through a sequence of lessons, tailored to the age and needs of our pupils. As pupils progress through our school, they study a range of artists, explore different styles and techniques, and record ideas and explorations in their own sketchbooks.
